Ivory tumbled 3"x6" (also called, "subway" tiles) are a very popular choice for a classic or traditional backsplash.  The tiles come with a tumbled, rounded edge to give a very soft and light feel.

Once sealed with 511 Impregnator, they completely impervious to water and other staining agents as the liquid just beads and falls off of the surface.
