Miton 42 is the one of the only sealers we recommed for sealing slate.  It does a better job on slate than any other sealer we've seen on the market which is why we've been stocking it for over 20 years!  We actually have clients bringing in ten year old bottles that they need to re-fill.

Miton 42 is a solvent-based (butanol solution) sealer that gives slate a subtle semi-gloss finish.  In no way would the finish be considered "shiny".  This sealer deeply enhances the natural colors of the slate and makes the stone really "come alive".  If, after application of Miton 42, you still desire a "wet look", we have Plaza Floor Finish to accomplish this.

A floor sealed with Miton 42 can be resealed every year and never require stripping.  Our experience has shown us that Miton 42 lasts for about 2-3 years on the stone before it needs to be resealed.  A 'sure fire' way of knowing whether or not your stone needs to be resealed is to spill some water on it: if the water beads on the surface, the stone is fine; if it makes the stone a darker color, it is absorbing into the stone and the stone needs to be re-sealed.

For stones other than slate, Miton 42 will leave an incosistent finish and may cause splotchiness in color.  We don't recommend using it on stones other than slate.

We sell Miton 42 in 500ml, 1 Litre, 1 gallon, and 5 gallon containers. 1 litre typically covers about 200 Sq Ft. of slate.
